ARRANGEMENT AND PROCESSING NOTES
Original folder titles were retained in most cases. The original arrangement of folders was retained in Series I. Series II was arranged into format types (magazines, newspapers, and posters), and then arranged alphabetically by title. Folder titles created by the archivist and information added to original folder titles are indicated by brackets in the folder list. Chicago Seed, volume 6, number 12 and volume 7, number 10 were moldy and were removed from the collection. These issues are available on microfilm at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries, call number A 265. For assistance, contact ref@library.umass.edu.

aesthetics, political philosophy, and ontology, and he has taught courses on Moral and Social Problems, Marxist Philosophy, Film and Philosophy, Virtual Art and Philosophy, Philosophy of Magic, Parallel Universes, and Morals and the Law, among others. Zabel was involved with the antiwar, socialist, anarchist, and Left-Green movements of the 1960s and 1970s; academic labor activism, particularly at the University of Massachusetts Boston; and the Occupy Boston movement of 2011.

SCOPE AND CONTENT
These records document Gary Zabel’s activism, particularly his involvement with the anti-Vietnam War movement in the United States and England; the Boston University Strike of 1979, of which he was the picket line coordinator for graduate teaching assistants; the English Left of the 1980s (Zabel traveled to England frequently during that decade); the Autre Futur international meeting of anarcho-syndicalist unions in Paris in 2000, where he was an invited speaker; the Occupy Boston movement of 2011; and his academic labor activism from 1997 to 2013. The collection also includes a series of socialist, anarchist, and Left-Green publications, including incomplete but substantial runs of The Black Panther and Students for a Democratic Society, and underground newspapers from across the United States. Formats include articles, bylaws, contracts, correspondence, handbooks, magazines, memoranda, newspapers, photographs, posters, and reports.
