The Manuel R. Gomez Cuban-American Committee Research and Education Fund collection was donated to University Archives and Special Collections in the Joseph P. Healey Library at the University of Massachusetts Boston on March 24, 2016 by Manuel R. Gomez.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Manuel R. Gomez came to the United States in 1961. Gomez obtained his undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1969, and his Doctorate in Public Health from Johns Hopkins in 1995. He is a specialist in occupational and environmental health. Gomez served as founder and president of the Cuban-American Committee Research and Education Fund from 1977-1986.

The Cuban-American Committee Research and Education Fund, formally known as the Cuban-American Committee for the Normalization of Relations with Cuba, was a private non-profit organization founded in 1977 to serve Cuban-Americans in Washington D.C. and improve University of Massachusetts Boston University Archives and Special Collections Finding Aid

Cuban-American relations. The Cuban-American Committee Research and Education Fund folded in 1988.
The committee published a quarterly newsletter, the U.S.-Cuba Bulletin which was disseminated to Congress, government officials, civic and business leaders, committee sponsors and others. In addition, the committee published occasional in-depth studies of appropriate issues and maintained contact with developments in Washington that affect Cuban-American interests, U.S. Cuba relations, and related matters.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
These records document the work of Manuel R. Gomez as founder and president of the Cuban-American Committee Research and Education Fund from 1977-1986. Materials consist of documents such as meeting minutes, reports, position papers, proposals, speeches, correspondence, notes, pamphlets, flyers, newsletters and magazines. Some of the significant topics and subjects represented in this collection include Cuban politics and government, American politics and government, foreign relations, refugees, Latin America, Cuban Americans, and Hispanic Americans.
